Class 2 were lucky enough to experience the History Squad visit today which was a fully interactive, historical opportunity. During the workshop, a Knight arrived in a full harness of historically accurate plate armour and he brought a huge collection of medieval arms and armour, all of which the children were able to safely handle. Afterwards, the children built some completely unique model castles discovering the secret stories found within the motte-and bailey, then they uncovered the deadly defences hidden inside the stone keep. As they built, they explored the different roles/occupations of those that live both inside and outside the castle, deciding who they would and wouldn't want to be! They finished by considering how to conquer a castle, including a chance to fire a catapult and listen to a number of incredible true stories about castles being both attacked and defended! This session was powerful, entertaining and utterly engaging.
