The school children are particularly invited to participate in the ‘Family Services’.

These take place on the second Sundays of each month  at 11.00am (unless it is a special festival) often the children will do a Bible reading or lead the prayers.

The Family Services for 2020 are as follows:

Our Values

We have school values linked to the Church of England. We have adopted the vision of the Anglican church to develop the values of:

Linking in with this vision we have the following school values which have been in the school for many years.

Reflectiveness and Stillness

These also spell out the word ‘TRUST’ so they can be easily shared and remembered.

Each value is linked to a story from the Old Testament, story from the New Testament and a memorable Bible verse:

A Key Verse is Proverbs 3v4,5 ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.’ (NIV)

T = Trust.   Could also stand for Truth and Truthfulness. Trust is the essence of Faith. Trust in God who is trustworthy. Have Faith in God who is Faithful.

Old Testament:  Abraham trusts God and leaves his home for the land of Canaan. He trusts God to provide a son and a new home…  Genesis 11, 12 and following.  (There are many Bible Characters in Hebrews 11 who lived and acted by Faith … Abel, Noah, Moses, Daniel… as well as Abraham)

New Testament: Simon Peter trusts Jesus to help him walk on the water and save him when he starts to sink!  Matthew 14v22f.  Jesus also encourages us to Trust Him (John 14v1)

R = Reflection and Stillness. This could also be Reverence or Respect.

Old Testament:  The prophet Elijah learns to listen to the Still Small Voice of God on the Mountain of Sinai (or Horeb) 1 Kings 19

New Testament: Mary listens to the words of Jesus as a disciple at his feet. Luke 10v38-42. ‘ Only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better…’  For Reverence the Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector: Luke 18v9-14

U = Understanding. This could also be Wisdom, which is a key theme in Scripture.  Supremely, we see God as the One who is wise and gives understanding to those who ask Him.

Old Testament: Solomon asked for Wisdom at the start of his reign, not riches or long life. God answered him and it was tested! 1 Kings 3.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding’ Proverbs 9v10

New Testament: Jesus is tested by the Pharisees whether to pay taxes to Caesar and gives a very wise reply! Luke 20v20-26

Then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s’ v.25

S = Service.   Isaiah writes about the Servant of the Lord and the Suffering Servant. S could also stand for Sacrifice, which is often the nature of Service.

Old Testament: Isaiah 53v3-12 describes the Suffering Servant and reminds us of the Sacrifice of Jesus.

New Testament: Jesus is our supreme example of a Servant. He washed his disciples’ feet as an example of Service and encourages us to do the same to one another. John 13v3-14. The Parable of the Good Samaritan also emphasises the importance of Service. Luke 10v25-37

T = Talents. This could also be Treasure or Team. Our skills, gifts and talents come from God and are to be used wisely to serve others not make us proud or boastful or self-reliant. We are called to be inter-dependent rather like the different members of a sports team or different parts of a body. All are important and needed…

Old Testament:  Many examples of people using their talents. Joseph – organiser; Nehemiah – builder; Daniel – pray-er and dream interpreter.

I would choose Daniel as a good role model. Great stories! Daniel 1-6

New Testament:  Jesus gave a Parable about Talents and the importance of using them, investing them not just sitting on them or burying them!  Luke 19 v11-27 or Matthew 25v14-30. Jesus called a TEAM to work with Him and Trusted them with His mission.

Paul wrote about every part of the Body being important not just the prominent parts. 1 Corinthians 12v12-end.
